Schedule-1O/Schedule-40 Fully Listed and FM Approved Sprinkler Pipe When you specify Schedule- lO/Schedule-40 sprinkler pipe you get a UL listed and FM approved product. Although these products do not require separate approvals, Schedule-10/Schedule-40 gives you the extra quality assurance you demand. Our Sch-10 (l',"- 8") pipe and Sch-40 (1"- 214") pipe have passed the same thorough lab testing as our other listed pipe products, and receive periodic mill inspections from both UL and FM agents to ensure consistent quality. Schedule- lO/Schedule-40 product can be "hot-dip" galvanized to meet FM requirements for dry systems in accordance with the zinc coating specifications of ASTM A-123. Our advanced formula mill coating of- fers a clean, durable surface. It is also paint-ready for custom color applications without special preparation. The internal surface of all black Allied Tube & Conduit Fire Sprinkler pipe products up to 4.5000" in diameter is coated with our new Antibacterial For- mula, "ABF". In scientific laboratory test, ABS proved to have superior resis- tance to microbial colonization of pipe walls, thereby delaying or possibly pre- venting the onset of Microbiologically Influenced corrosion (MIC) when the First Sprinkler System is first installed. Meets "Buy American" requirement and is available through distributors in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Sch-40 Specifications NPS Nominal I.D. WI. WI. Style 005 is rigid and does not accommodate expansion, contraction or angular deflection. 10.02 Style 005 FireLockO Rigid Coupling with Vic-PIus Gasket System VIC IAULIC IS AN SO 9001 CERTIFIED COMPANY Vicfl Gasket System PRODUCT DESCRIPTION FireLock' Style. 005 rigid coupling has a unique, patented angle-pad design which allows the housings to offset while clamping the grooves. By permitting the housings to slide on the angled bolt pads, rigidity is obtained. The FireLock couplings provide rigidity for valve connections, fire mains and long straight runs. Support and hanging requirements correspond to NEPA 13 Sprinkler Systems. Angle-pad design permits assembly by removing one nut/bolt and swinging the housing overthe gasket. This reduces components to handle during assembly; speeds and eases installation on pipe grooved to Victaulic specifications. Style 005 FireLock couplings with the Vic.PIuSTM Gasket System are designed and recommended for use ONLY on fire protection systems. Vic-Pius Gasket System: Victaulic now offers a gasket system which requires no field lubrication on wet pipe systems. The Vic-Plus' System (patented) is dry, clean, and non-toxic. It reduces assembly time substantially and eliminates the mess and chance of over-lubrication. Please refer to the latest copy of the Victaulic Field Installation Handbook (1-100) for supplemental lubrication requirements. They are higher in strength and more corrosion resistant than cast iron fittings. The additional strength is provided by the ductile properties making up the fitting. This is accomplished by adding magnesium while the iron is being poured into it final cast shape. This provides an advantage as the fittings are not as susceptible to leaks or cracking and they are also lighter than standard cast iron. Caution: Installers who have not used ductile iron threaded fittings before should be instructed that the fittings are stronger than the pipe and over- tightening the fitting can create leaks and cause damage to pipe threads. In general, there is about one-half turn difference between cast iron and ductile iron fittings. Apply Teflon tape or high quality pipe joint compound on the male pipe threads and tighten two to three turns beyond hand tight. If you are using an automatic make-on machine, please exercise caution in setting your machine to the proper parameters prior to tightening fittings onto the male pipe threads. Maintaining a supply of spare sprinklers on the premises of automatic sprinkler systems will aid in the prompt replacement of operated or damaged sprin- klers and returning a fire protection system to ser- vice as soon as possible. This is a requirement of NFPA and most Authori- ties Having Jurisdiction. Refer to the applicable NFPA standard governing your specific installation for further details. Six or twelve sprinkler capacity cabinets are avail- able. This also provides for storage of the appropriate wrench which is required for the installation and removal of sprinklers. NFPA 25 requires the total number of spare sprinklers to be stored on the pre- mises of an automatic sprinkler system meet the minimum quantities shown in the accompanying table. When the sprinkler system includes more than one type of temperature rating sprinkler, the stock of spare sprinklers must include a proportional sampling of each type and temperature rating; however, a mini- mum of 3 each is recom- mended. REV..E 40203 FIRE PROTECTOU PRODUCTS - AUTOMATIC SPRINKLERS 40.80 FireLocP Automatic Sprinkler Wrenches PROPER USE CONCEALED/RECESSED WRENCHES These wrenches also bare a raised line on the solid side of the wrench, which corresponds to the frame arm of the sprinkler. Carefully position the open side of the wrench over the frame arm mid way between the deflector (be careful of deflector and bulb) and wrench boss. Once the wrench opening touches the frame arm, position the wrench onto the wrench boss. Be sure the wrench only engages on the wrench boss. Once the wrench is completely seated on the wrench boss the deflector is protected from damage during proper use. Tighten the sprinkler into the fitting for a leak tight fit using the line on the wrench and the sprinkler frame arm for desired alignment. Remove the wrench. These wrenches can only engage the wrench boss when parallel to the frame arms. OPEN END WRENCHES Open end wrenches have a raised rib in the wrench opening which engages the throat of the sprin- kler frame between the NPT thread and the wrench boss. Slip the wrench onto the sprinkler frame (be careful of the deflector and bulb) such that the rib engages the frame as previously described. Tighten the sprinkler into the fitting for a leak tight fit using the sprinkler frame arm for desired align- ment. Remove the wrench. Open end wrenches can safely engage the V27 and V34 frames on any two opposing wrench flats due the hex design (a total of six acceptable positions). The V34 wrench will only engage the Ki, V25, and V36 frames on only one pair of wrench flats as there is Only one pair of flats available on this frame (a total of two acceptable positions). NOTE: The V36 open end wrench also has a rib in the wrench opening. This rib lays on the deflector side of the wrench boss instead of the throat due to the larger throat diameter. The wrench engages only the wrench boss, similar to the V27 and V34. SOCKET AND The V38-4, V38-5, V29, and V29-1 wrenches are all socket style wrenches designed to engage a TEE-HANDLE WRENCHES special wrenching surface of the sprinkler assembly. The V38-4 and V38-5 socket wrenches are designed to engage the slots in the base of the cup, which is crimped on a V38 concealed sprinkler. These wrenches will not work on the old style, threaded on a V38 cup. Slip the wrench axially down over the sprinkler into the V38 sprinkler cup and rotate until the wrench tabs slide into the slots in the cup. Tighten the sprinkler and gently remove the wrench. The V29 and V29-1 wrenches are also socket-style wrenches. These wrenches engage special wrenching tabs cast onto the V29 sprinkler frame. Slip the wrench axially down over the V29 sprinkler with the protective cap in place and rotate until the slots in the wrench engage the wrenching tabs. Tighten the sprinkler and gently remove the wrench. The V38-4 and V29 wrenches are designed for use with standard 1/2-inch drive ratchet wrenches and are suitable for repeated use. The V38-5 and V29-1 wrenches are Tee-Handle style, lightweight wrenches designed for occasional sprinkler replacement and can be stored in the spare sprinkler cabinet. www.victaulic.com _A.—C—taulacr VICTAULIC IS A REGISTERED TRADEMARK OF VICTAULIC COMPANY. © 2006 VICTAULIC COMPANY.
