Discussion Greg Hearon, Principal of Coastal Frontiers, will present an informational report on the state of beaches within Carlsbad, based off the beach profile survey studies to date. The report will include background information, monitoring program specifics, and survey results/findings. At the special meeting on Dec. 7, 2022, the Beach Preservation Commission accepted its annual work plan. The Goals & Tasks section of the approved work plan states: 1.Gain a better understanding of local shoreline preservation and beach nourishment projects. a.Study and investigate coastal erosion impacts to Carlsbad beaches through understanding of coastal processes and terminology, including: -Disruption of natural sand supply and sediment flow -High intensity storms and potential flooding -Hard stabilization structures or “coastal armoring” -Sand replenishment/beach nourishment -Living shorelines, shoreline buffers -Sea Level Rise impacts - littoral cell/Oceanside cell Dec. 5, 2023 Item #1 1 of 2 This agenda item addresses the above goal and task of the Beach Preservation Commission’s accepted annual work plan.
