REQUESTED ACTION: Elect a new Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Traffic Safety
Commission to serve from August 2005 through July 2006.
BACKGROUND:
Each year, it has been customary for the Traffic Safety Commission (TSC) to rotate the
role of the Chairperson by electing a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson to serve a
one-year term beginning in August. Generally, after serving as Vice-Chairperson,
the Vice-Chairperson is elected the Chairperson of the Traffic Safety Commission for the
following year.
In past years, the Commission recommended that the terms of the Chairperson
and Vice-Chairperson run from August through the following July. The selection of
the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson is typically conducted at the July meeting of
the Traffic Safety Commission. However, the July Commission meeting falls on
July 4, 2005. Due to the 4th of July holiday, there will be no Traffic Safety Commission
meeting scheduled in July 2005.
In May 2004, Mr. Cress was the Vice-Chairperson of the Commission and he was also
the Acting Chairperson, due to the resignation of the Chairperson in February 2004.
At the meeting of May 3, 2004, Mr. Cress was elected Chairperson to serve through
July 2005. Also at that meeting, Mr. Dorsey was elected as Vice-Chairperson to serve
through July 2005.
In the absence of the Chairperson, the Vice-Chairperson conducts the meeting. None of
the other current Commissioners have served as the Chairperson or Vice-Chairperson of
the Commission, based upon the Traffic Safety Commission policy of having each
Commissioner serve a term as the Chairperson.
RECOMMENDATION:
Elect a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson as determined by the Traffic Safety
Commission to serve from August 2005 through July 2006.
NECESSARY CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
No action required.
