REQUESTED ACTION: Staff presentation on Traffic Signal Operations.
BACKGROUND:
ITEM NO. 6B
At the July 6, 2009 meeting of the Traffic Safety Commission, Vice-Chair Cumming
asked if staff could make a presentation to the Commission about traffic signal operations
in Carlsbad and explain how the traffic signals are coordinated along the major arterials.
DATA:
Staff will provide a verbal explanation about the basic operation of a traffic signal in
coordination. The presentation will include a discussion on how vehicles are detected at
the traffic signal and how the traffic signals are synchronized to promote efficient traffic
flow along an arterial road. Staff will also provide a brief overview of alternative traffic
signal coordination methods.
RECOMMENDATION:
Information item only. Receive and file report.

No City Council action required.
