REQUESTED ACTION: Elect a new Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Traffic
Safety Commission to serve from August 2011 to July 2012.
BACKGROUND:
Each year, it has been customary for the Traffic Safety Commission (TSC) to rotate the
role of the Chairperson by electing a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson to serve a one-
year term. Typically, after serving as Vice-Chairperson, the Vice-Chairperson is elected
the Chairperson of the Traffic Safety Commission for the following year. The TSC
policy has been for each Commissioner, if interested, to serve one year as Chairperson on
a rotating basis. In the absence of the Chairperson, the Vice-Chairperson conducts the
Traffic Safety Commission meeting.
In past years, the Commission recommended that the terms of the Chairperson and Vice-
Chairperson run from August through the following July. The selection of the
Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson is typically conducted each year at the June or July
meeting of the Traffic Safety Commission.
At the June 2010 meeting, Guy Roney was elected as Chairperson to serve from August
2010 to July 2011. At the August 2010 meeting, Steve Gallagher was elected as Vice
Chairperson to serve from August 2010 to July 2011.
RECOMMENDATION:
Elect a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, as determined by the Traffic Safety
Commission, to serve from August 2011 to July 2012.
NECESSARY CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
No City Council action required.
