This plan review is limited to the technical requirements contained in the California version of
the International Building Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code, National
Electrical Code and state laws regulating energy conservation, noise attenuation and access for
the disabled. This plan review is based on regulations enforced by the Building Department.
You may have other corrections based on laws and ordinances enforced by the Planning
Department, Engineering Department, Fire Department or other departments. Clearance from
those departments may be required prior to the issuance of a building permit.
Code sections cited are based on the 2019 CBC, which adopts the 2018 IBC.
The following items listed need clarification, modification or change. All items must be satisfied
before the plans will be in conformance with the cited codes and regulations. Per Sec. 105.4 of
the 2018 International Building Code, the approval of the plans does not permit the violation of
any state, county or city law.
To speed up the recheck process, please note on this list (or a copy) where each
correction item has been addressed, i.e., plan sheet number, specification section, etc.
Be sure to enclose the marked up list when you submit the revised plans.
GENERAL
1. Please make all corrections, as requested in the correction list. Submit FOUR new
complete sets of plans for commercial/industrial projects (THREE sets of plans for
residential projects). For expeditious processing, corrected sets can be submitted
in one of two ways:
a. Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the
City of Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA
92008, (760) 602-2700. The City will route the plans to lnterwest and the
Carlsbad Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
OR;
b. Bring TWO corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to lnterwest,
9320 Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560-
1468. Deliver all remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to
the City of Carlsbad Building Department for routing to their Planning,
Engineering and Fire Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to lnterwest only will not be
reviewed by the City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until
review by lnterwest is complete.
2. Plans may be submitted in electronic format, subject to the jurisdiction's
approval. If so, they must have restrictions removed from the security settings.
Electronic plans with restrictions to markups, printing, or stamping will not be
approved.
Electronic plans must be submitted back to the jurisdiction's building department
and will then be routed to lnterwest. ONLY submit FULL complete and combined
sets of plans, uploading multiple single sheets will not be allowed. Make sure all
plans and calc packages, spec. reports, etc: are labeled clearly and can be read
what they are and WHAT SUBMITTAL they go with. DO NOT SEND documents
directly to lnterwest as they will not be accepted.
3. Provide item-by-item responses on an 8-1 /2-inch by 11-inch sheet(s) clearly and
specifically indicating where and how each correction item has been addressed
(vague responses, such as "Done" or "See plans," are unacceptable).
4. Please provide a response list indicating where each correction item has been
addressed on the plans. I.e., specify the plan sheet, note, or detail number,
calculation page, etc., where the item is corrected on the plans.
5. Please indicate here if any changes have been made to the plans that are not a
result of corrections from this list. If there are other changes, please briefly
describe them and where they are located in the plans. Have changes been

1. Floor drains and floor sinks are missing the required vents. Please provide a
separate vent connection to each fixture upon next submittal per CPC Chapter 9.
2. No vents piping was provided on plans Provide vent piping and sizes on
plumbing plans. Each plumbing fixture trap, except as otherwise provided in this
code, shall be protected against siphonage and backpressure, and air circulation
shall be ensured throughout all parts of the drainage system by means of vent
pipes installed in accordance with the requirements of CPC 901.2
3. The size of vent piping shall be determined from its length and the total number
of fixture units connected, in accordance with Table 703.2. Vent pipes from
fixtures located upstream from pumps, ejectors, backwater valves, or other
devices that obstruct the free flow of air and other gases between the building
sewer and the outside atmosphere shall not be used for meeting the cross-
sectional area venting requirements of this section. Please provide accordingly.

4. Notes 2 and 4 on plans uP001 specified two different type of materials for sewer
and vent. If PVC DWV piping will be used, installations shall be in accordance
with the firestop protection requirements in the California Building Code. Clarify
and provide waste and vent materials to be used on this project. General or
typical notes are not acceptable CPC 701.0 & CPC 903.0
5. Only waste riser was provided. Provide riser diagram for the waste and vent
systems. The waste system shall extend to the property line. The riser diagram
shall indicate all the fixtures served, the pipe sizes, and the fixture unit count on
each leg of pipe.
6. Materials exposed within ducts or plenums shall have a flame-spread index of
not more than 25 and a smoke-developed index of not more than 50 where
tested in accordance with ASTM E84 or UL 723. These tests shall comply with all
requirements of the standards to include the sample size, both for width and
length. Plastic pipe shall not be tested filled with water. Provide accordingly on
plans. note on plans. CPC 903.1
7. Please show the slopes for all horizontal waste pipes within the plumbing plans.
Note: All waste pipes that are smaller than 4" must have a minimum slope of 2%.
Please show on the plans. CPC 708.1
8. Please provide plumbing roof plan on next submittal showing the VTR locations.
Make sure the proper 10' clearances are provided from any forced air intakes.
9. Provide floor drains on plans and details the floor drain trap seal is to be
maintained. CPC 1007.0
10. Trap primers are required to be used for all infrequent floor drains (i.e. trap
guards are not approved). Please provide on plans. CPC 1007.0
