Crry OF CARLSBAD PLANNING DivisioN We have provided the following letter with regard to the preliminary geotechnical recommendations of new permeable paved areas associated with the above noted development. a. We understand permeable payers are proposed in the area of new driveway and rear patios. Specific paver detailing should be detailed and constructed per the minimum recommendations of the Interlocking Concrete Paver Institute and the specific concrete paver manufacturer, including edge restraints, minimum bedding specifications, base and subgrade requirements, installation tolerances, and drainage, etc. b. Where runoff and stormwater is directed over permeable pavements and water is anticipated to flow through payers into an aggregate base near and adjacent to foundations, detailing shall include systems to control and to prevent subsurface flow beneath the building. Generally, these systems, detailed as part of the specific building construction plans, may include the following: Cut-off walls Underdrains Enhanced vapor barriers/waterproof membranes c. Where an aggregate base is detailed as part of the permeable payers, subgrade below the aggregate base, should be sloped away from building footprint a minimum of 2% within a distance of 5 feet and lined with an impervious liner. Peele Residence Page No. 1 2441 Buena Vista Circle, Carlsbad CA 92008 Job No. 165620-1 ENGINEERING DESIGN GROUP GEOTECHNICAL, CIVIL STRUCTURAL CONSULTANTS Cut-off walls shall be provided across utility and any other trenches that extend to the building Permeable payers on sloped driveways should be detailed with the edge restraints, concrete band restraints, benches, cutoff walls and drainage devices, including underdrains where subgrade soils do not allow for infiltration. The specific recommendations of the concrete block manufacturer or the ICPI may supersede the recommendations herein. Specific manufacturer recommendations shall be included in any paver detailing. Prior to the finalization of construction drawings, details shall be reviewed by Engineering Design Group.
